Sidewalk Trip Hazzards
are rarely a subtle event
The "Trip Hazard" Lip (Uneven Joints): This is the most common and dangerous sign. When one concrete slab sinks while the adjacent one stays put, it creates an uneven vertical edge or "lip." If it’s high enough to catch a toe or a stroller wheel, it’s a liability—and a perfect candidate for foam lifting.
Pooling Water or Puddles: If a sidewalk slab tilts backward or sinks in the middle, water will pool on top of it every time it rains or snow melts. If homeowners notice standing water on their sidewalk for hours after the storm has passed, the concrete has settled and lost its proper slope.
Visible Voids or Soil Washout Under the Edges: If you look at the side of the sidewalk slab & see empty space, hollow gaps, or dirt that has completely washed away under the concrete, it’s only a matter of time before the slab cracks or drops. Injecting foam fills these voids before catastrophic settling happens.
Misaligned Walkway Gates or Landscaping: If a sidewalk connects to a fence gate or passes right next to a brick retaining wall and suddenly looks completely crooked or misaligned, the concrete has likely shifted or dropped.
The "Rollercoaster": A "wavy" appearance when you look down the line of the path. This makes snow removal nearly impossible, as your shovel or snowblower blade will constantly catch on the "up" edges of the waves.
